NDUKA UZOMA

In One Single File

Like heavy belly pushing
Down the hall of birth, we
Strolled, slugged and nagged.

Like soldier ants rushing
To an invisible battle-ground, where
No adversary forte stands, we
Rushed and gushed.

Famished and exhausted by piping,
Digging trenches, drilling holes and drenching
Our jelly-like wells, we
All like fools settled
Down on heavy moulds,
Mountainous dishes served
Us out of our inner pockets, we

Gulped the salt of our being, we
Swallowed our gold, dashed our
Siblings silver, we
"Washed" all down at the bar
Of emptiness,
Filled with fruitless desert
Served by tutored stewards,

Zombie recession ensued
And we retired to the
Innocence and lousiness of our mind.
