JAMES AMUTA

Romeo and Juliets?

A slave without chains
Enslaved not by iron shackles
But ensnared by the lust of his loins
Incarcerated in the gaol of his greed.

A victim of his victories
And conquest over the sweet yawning oysters
That continually greases his wanton shaft.

He smiles, a sinking general
Whose power to subdue and conquer
Contradicts his present status of slavery.

He deposited a lot of treasures
Into the moist, steamy vaults of Delilah
Basking in the euphoria of jiffy spasms
Of blissful madness - blissful waste.

The night became his favorite accomplice,
His job as a reporter; his handy alibi,
His nagging wife a crucial exhibit
Presented not in his prosecution but in his defense.
And that’s some juicy twist for the jury!

Well, a slave he became nonetheless
When he discovered in his hip pocket
That for all the succulent pink oysters he savoured
He had actually been issued a receipt –
A receipt that runs to the tune of HIV positive.
