| The Valentine Month Special features poems by Lola Shoneyin, Founding Coordinator of Ibadan Arts Renaissance, Nigeria, and author of Song Of A Riverbird. A truly ironic choice, seeing that even Shoneyin’s ‘love’ poems tend to be hallmarked with textured cynicism, although when she is not watching, she tends to betray a fascinating tenderness. Here we have new poems Like A Split Reed At Waterfront and Music-Making, plus Trysexual (first published in Orbis) and You Shall Love Again (first published in So All The Time I Was Sitting On An Egg–Shoneyin’s first book of poetry).
