Kole Ade-Odutola

Continued from previous page

Ori-Ade flies

to Esa-Oke with the foreign chant

and the borrowed sound that bellows like a dane-gun

gone G B O S A!

Ori-Ade saves the trip to Esa-Oke unhindered

where Pall-Bearers let go of a lifeless body

Where Mother Earth’s swollen ankle welcomes

the sacrificial fathered one

that never rests on its hind legs

till the teeth that touched its meat,

broke its bones, pay the debt owed.

(The chant changes and inner voice takes over)

At Esa-Oke

Arole stays alone.

He who dined in unity.

The role in the ‘cult of respect’ is rolled out

From tongues of history

Like Olohun iyo’s welcome mat to the “Not-I-Bird”

Words will fire no embers of fear

Inspiration for the brave, the slave and all

Who crave for truth will lead the war.

Forever, father of sweet words will be remembered

This December and others to come

We pay our respect to a warrior with words

Whose gut to the throne of tiny Lords

will catch on like wild fire

The living remain fixed here at the shore

awaiting the return of divine verdict for the ‘water

that professes goodness’ and the band

of godless miscreants who executed the plot.

The fault is theirs who fell Iroko trees

The fault is theirs…

Bola Ige… in gracious exit

Sun Re.
