Sentinel Literary Quarterly Poetry Competition (January, 2010).

 

About the competition

Sentinel Literary Quarterly Poetry Competition has been introduced to encourage and reward quality poetry writing, create and sustain awareness about the publication and if by any chance a small financial margin is achieved at the end of each competition, that will go back into producing the magazine and help keep it a free-to-read publication.

 

Competition Details 

Subject: Poems may be on any subject.

Length: Maximum 40 lines per poem

Entry Fees: £3.00 per poem or £12.00 for 5 poems

First Prize: £100.00

Second Prize: £60.00

Third Prize: £40.00

First Publication: The top three poems will receive first publication in the January 2010 issue (Vol.3 No.2) of Sentinel Literary Quarterly (SLQ).

Competition Pamphlet: A pamphlet of 32 poems fed by the competition titled Champion Poems 3 – Top poems from the Sentinel Literary Quarterly Competition (January 2010) Compiled & Edited by Munayem Mayenin will be published and all included poets will receive 1 Free contributor’s copy each.

Entry deadline: 23rd December, 2009 (Postmark)*

Results due: 31st January, 2010 announced in Sentinel Literary Quarterly magazine at http://www.sentinelpoetry.org.uk/slq/3.2

How to Enter: ENTER BY POST OR ONLINE

 

POSTAL ENTRIES

  1. Poems must be in English Language and typed.

  2. Author’s name and address or any other identifying mark MUST NOT appear on the page. Write "SLQ POETRY JANUARY 2010" followed by the Title(s) of your poem(s) on the back of the envelope.

  3. Make cheques or Postal Orders (in GB£ only) payable to SENTINEL POETRY MOVEMENT.

  4. Send your poems, the envelope with your name inside, and your entry fee to:

ONLINE ENTRIES**

 

International/Online entrants may enter by e-mail and pay entry fees by Paypal. To enter by this method please follow these steps:

1. Select the option that matches your entry preference and make the applicable payment.

2. After making your payment, you will be given a Transaction ID or Receipt Number by Paypal. Make a note of the Transaction ID.

3. Submit your poems to [email protected] as a Word or rtf attachment. In the subject line, type SLQ POETRY JANUARY 2010 Followed by your Transaction ID.

4. You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of poems within 48 hours.

Terms & Conditions: You may enter as many poems as you want with the appropriate entry fees. The decision of the judge is final, and no communication will be entered into. We reserve the right to reapportion the prize money, though this is unlikely. If you would like an acknowledgement of postal entries, please enclose an SAE marked "acknowledgement". The Judges’ Report will be published alongside the winning poems in SLQ January 2010 Since this publication is online, if you would like to receive the Judges’ Report in the post, please enclose an SAE marked "Judges’ Report".

 

*Postal entries must be Postmarked by 23rd December, 2009 and must be received by 30th December, 2009.  Bear in mind there might be delays due to Christmas post, therefore post your work early.

MUNAYEM MAYENIN is the Festival Director of London Poetry Festival, Editor of Poets’ Letter Magazine, Poet in Residence at Southwark Libraries, and author of 14 published books across poetry, fiction and philosophy. Mayenin edited ‘The Poets’ Letter Poetry Anthology of New Voices’ (London, 2005). He co-edited ‘Slivers: An Anthology of South Asian Poetry in Britain’, which was published in London in 1997.
